Our Media Work for the BBC and ITV

For ITV:

In our capacity as an experienced and known breeder of rabbits in Manchester, we were very pleased when our stunning little black and white dutch baby boy was chosen to star as ‘Leanne’, the pet rabbit of Simon Barlow on Coronation Street in 2009, after ITV approached us to help with the new casting. Benny is a lovely rabbit, very laid back and placid which made him ideal. Everyone on set adored him and he lapped up all of the attention.

Benny had some big scenes to film on Coronation Street including the scene in which the ‘bookies flat’ set on fire and someone had to rush back in to save him. Luckily Benny survived and remained the pet of Simon Barlow for some time.

During Easter 2009 Benny was asked to do several photo shoots for Coronation Street and once again he was impeccably behaved and loved all of the attention. He was a big hit with everyone that met him and made a big impression on them all.

Unfortunately, towards the end of 2009 ‘Leanne’ passed away and was buried in the Webster's backyard by a very upset little Simon. Benny was sad that his time on Coronation Street was over but he now spends his days living the life of luxury at our home, greeting everyone that comes to visit us and our rabbits. He has produced several ‘little Bennys’ in 2009 and we hope for more from him in 2010.

This experience with Benny was very valuable for us. We learnt a lot from spending time on set with him, regarding animal welfare, training animals and media work in general. Benny was treated like an absolute star on and off set, as are all animals on Coronation Street and we enjoyed this experience immensely.

We where also involved in the care and transport of small animals for Coronation Dtreet during this time including the filming of a church scene involving hamster's, birds, dogs, cats and of course Benny.

For the BBC:
Other media work we have carried out include providing our little pet rat Darwin for the CBBC show Jinx. Darwin starred in one episode when he was magically turned into a date for main character Lulu’s Valentine’s Dance. Darwin, once again, behaved very well and performed everything he was asked to. Everyone loved him to pieces and we think we even managed to change some people’s opinions on rats.

This media work throughout 2009 has broadened our knowledge and experience in this field and we look forward to any more opportunities that may present themselves in 2010. In the meantime we are proud of our two little stars and continue to lavish them with all the attention that they, and all our others pets, deserve.
